Avery Dennison has opened its first radio-frequency identification (RFID) production facility in India. The new plant, located in Pune, began operations on April 23, 2025. This marks a major move by the company to support the local adoption of RFID technology and contribute to India’s “Make in India” initiative. “With this new plant, we’re building a stronger presence in India,” said Saurabh Agarwal, Vice President and General Manager for South Asia. “Producing locally means we can meet demand faster, reduce wait times, and provide better service to our customers across different sectors.”
This facility makes Avery Dennison the first company certified by Auburn University’s ARC program to produce RFID inlays and labels within India. As part of the launch, the company introduced the AD Cobra, a new RFID inlay explicitly designed for the needs of Indian businesses. It’s built to handle local environmental and operational challenges, helping companies more easily adopt RFID-based systems. Kelvin Tan, who leads sales and business development in Asia-Pacific, added, “India is one of the fastest-growing markets for RFID. This facility brings us closer to our customers and strengthens our ability to deliver customized solutions for Indian supply chains.”
Avery Dennison’s RFID products span multiple frequency ranges, including UHF, HF, and NFC, and are utilised in various industries such as clothing, healthcare, consumer goods, logistics, and retail. RFID helps businesses avoid mistakes, track inventory in real time, prevent counterfeiting, and speed up processes like restocking and checkout. These improvements lead to smoother operations and better customer experiences.
Avery Dennison operates in over 50 countries with a workforce of around 35,000 people. In 2024, the company reported $8.8 billion in sales. Its products and technologies support industries ranging from personal care and e-commerce to automotive and food.
