Sun Valley Resort plans to install radio frequency identification, or RFID, pass scanners at all base areas for next ski season, meaning visitors will not need to take their tickets or season passes out of their pockets to board the lifts.
RFID scanners often take the form of gates placed in lift queues. A skier or snowboarder enters the gate, which scans a radio chip embedded in their pass before opening to let the guest through.
“The integration of RFID technology is the next step in our continued investment in the mountain,” Resort Chief Operating Officer Pete Sonntag stated in a news release.
